Community Investment Fair at Town Common

United Way of Pitt County will hold its first Community Investment Fair for citizens to visit and learn about UWPC funded programs.

Typically held during workplace campaigns, the Community Investment Fair for the community at large will be held Saturday, October 10 at Town Common from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM.

In its on going effort to provide the community opportunities to become involved with UWPC and  to collaborate with other organizations, the fair will be held in conjunction with The Dream Factory of NC's 2nd Annual Buzz the Red, White, and Blue Event.

The “Buzz” fundraiser challenges local firefighters, police, and rescue personnel to raise money by shaving their heads. Participants collect donations to help the charity grant dreams to children with critical and chronic illness. At the event, everyone who has raised money will have his or her head shaved by Supercuts, a national sponsor.

The family fun event will feature live music from local bands, food and entertainment vendors, a raffle drawing with prizes donated from local businesses, as well as announcing the winner of the annual “Buzz Cup.” Last year, in a competition between the Police and Fire/Rescue, the Greenville Fire Department raised the most money, beating Greenville Police in the inaugural event.

“This is a family event and the public is invited to attend. Individuals may also have their heads shaved for a donation to the Dream Factory,” said Dream Factory of North Carolina board member, Barbara Bullington. “Of course, having your head shaved is not mandatory--we'll gladly accept donations regardless.”

“The Dream Factory has helped to enrich the lives of children and their parents during a time when their lives are otherwise stressful,” said Bullington. “Sometimes the best medicine for a sick child is having both big dreams and little ones come true.”

The Dream Factory is a nonprofit charitable organization that grants dreams to critically and chronically ill children, aged 3-18, in Eastern NC. Founded in Greenville in 1987, the North Carolina Chapter is one of the oldest chapters in the nation. All chapters are 100% volunteer driven to ensure low overhead and donations go toward dreams.
